"LILAO TIME" AND 'TAUL JONF-«" To-morrow night at the Municipal 'J'heatre, Hastiugts, beginijing at 8 o'clock. J. C. Williamson Ltd., will pvesent Ivan Mengies and their inromnan able Oomic Opera Company in a beautiful production of Franz Scbubert'e gjoriouslv tuneful and riphly hmnoiqnn romance "Li'ao Time," which recentl.v created a furore of entliusiasm in S.\ d, ney and Auckland. On Thursday evening the company will presen't a waanificent performance of the delicicras and intensely funjiy comic opera "Paul Jones," which is one pf the most popu- ; lar plays ever written. The booking for
each of the operas is very heavy and i it is likely that the theatre here will be taxed to its utmost capacity at each performance. The reappearance in Auckland reeently of Mr Ivan Menzies was the signal for an unnsual outbnrst of entliusiasm, proving that this brilliant comedian is just as popular with New Zealand playgoers as he is with those in Australia .Mr Menzies has scored one pf his most notable tviumphs in the rple of Franz Schuberfc. which is a part tliat may have been specially- created for this fine actor. Miss Helen Lengton created a furore of enthusiasm by her brilliant singing and artistry in the role of Lilli and it must be ranked witli her finest performances. Mr Gregory Stroun's fine baritone voice is heard to the best advantage in the part of Baron Vpn Schober and Bernai'd Manning has a most congenial cliaracter in that of Christian Veit. Miss Evelyn Hall, the aocomplished young Australian contralto will make her first appearance here as Mary Veit and Richard Watson and Eileen Tvelly have good singing parts while Tommy Jay and Vincent MciMuvray create muoh amusemont in their parts. In "Paul Jones'' which is to be staged on Thursday evening orery member of the company is heard and seen to ad antage in this very tuneful aud picturesque opera, which is proving one of tlie most suocessftil in the .repertoire of the orgauisation. A speeial performance will be stagect of i!}y's. Time" on Thursday afterlioon at 2 o'clock. There are over 1GO people concerned in the two production s including a full operatic cliorus 1 and orchestra. ' '
