Charges at Wairoa WARNINGS IGNORED

WAIROA, Jan. 19. Pleading guilty to charges of being intoxieated whilo in charge of a motor car and driving without a licence, valeutine Norman Gray, aged 24, Public Works employee at Hopusawhara, appeared before Messrs J. R. Gillespie uuci V. E. Winter, J.P.'s, in the Magistrate's Court. Idergeaut Clark, prosecuting, said the aecased, and two others, were warned Oy Constablo Matches and a trafiic inspeetor but disregarded this land toob nxore liquor. , Later they began to drive away and, after they had nearly collided with several other cars, Constable Matches stopped them and put thfem under arrest. "They would have been three nice gentlemen to meet on the narrow Waikokopu roiad," conimented Sergeant Clark, who added that he was going to do his 'best to keep such men off the road The accused said he was not with the others when they were warned. This, Sergeant Clark said, was true, but the Bench said it made no difference. Accused was fined £10 or a month on the first charge, and £3 on tho second. He was also prohibited from being granted a licence for 12 months. One of his companions was fined 10/-, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for a first offenco of drunkenness.
