"THE MAN WHO OOXJLD WORK MIRACLES" The British production, "The Man .Who Could Work Miracles" will be to- ' day #s film at the Begent Theatre. lt is an adaptation df H. G. Wells's famous story, and the f'eatured players are Roland Young, Joan Gardner and Ealph Eiehardson. In its imaginative charaeter the pictiire is a true suceessor to the mighty , "Things to Come," but it is in a much lighter vein. Por all its humour and buffoonery, however, it provides considerable thought and slyly castigates the leaders of every branch of society through the reactions of the central charaeter. George McWhirter Eotheringay finds that at his comtnend he can mahe the lamp in the public bar of the local inn move ■ about whenever and wherever he wishes it, and finds himseJf ejected for carrying wishes into effect. He diseovers he can produce ®rabbits and kittens and bunches of grapes from the air and can send the village policemah to "Blazes", to San Francisco, in fact any place in the world. And he is mightily startled at his power, but no more so than the inhabitants of the viliage in which he lives. Those who cculd bett'er their position in life seek to advise him, those who might be affected by his power seek to destroy him. After a long period of indecision he resolves to shun all aid, defy all opposition, anad set his course of action according to his own desires and for the betterment of the world.
