INTER-HOUSE SPORTS
Nine Teams Enter Hastings Competition Nine teams have been entered for the fojtlicoming. inter-honse business girls ' atliletic sports. This number is equal to that of last year, when the competition was introdueed in Hawke's Bay by the Hastings Axnateur Athletif and Cycling Club. Though the number of teams will be the same as last year, there will be dift'erent houses competingj two of the teams in last year's light are not taking part this year, but they • have been replaced by a team from Baird's, Ltd.;
and a second team from Wattie 's Canaeries, Ltd. Competition is for the Alexander dhield, which is at present held hy Westerman 's, who were suecossful last /ear- after a keen competition that evoked • considerable comment, tho gathering being aeclaimed one of the greatest suceesses in reeent years. Following are the teams that will be Laking part in the next meeting on i'ebruary 4i— Baird's, T.td. (white and green), Bon Marehe, Ltd. (navv and vhite), Hnnt's (red, white and blaclc), MeKenzie's, Ltd. (blue and white), Roaeh's, Ltd. (white and gold), (Vattie's Canneries, Jjtd. (two teams, botli blue and gold), Westerman 's, Ltd. (colours not alloeated), Woolworth's Ltd. - (white, with red facings).
Everyone is talring part in Baird's ^lst birthday celebrations, wliieh will continue throughout ,this week. A liuge selection of goods from every section of the big store, including the men's and boys' departments, has been marked down to half-price as a tribute to the support the firm has received during the 21 years in which it has been operating. These half-price goods are displayed right down the centre of the store from the front door to the back, and are all plainly marked showing tho original priee and the genuine halfprice. Tn this selection of half-price goods there are boys' and men's wear of all kinds, ladies' frocks, coats, millinery and underwear, soft furnishings. silks, cbtton and wool dress fabrics, ?fancy goods. handbags. gloves. hosierv and many other items too numeroiis to mention.
