LUCKY ESCAPE Cab With Three Men Inside Thrown Clear MINOR INJURIES ONLY

BLENHEIM, Jan. 18. Three young men, W. Hkwke, W. Orchard and W. Edgecombe, all of Blenheim, had a lttcky escape when their motor-truck was hit at a level crossing last evening, receiving nothing worse than minor injuries. The impact occurred right in the centre of the railway line, the truck heing hit amidshipS by the engine of the Picton-bound train, hnt at the moment of impact the cah was wtenched from the chasSis and, With the occupants still inside, hurled aff the track •about 10 feet from the crossing. The remaindef Of the truck was caught up by the eOW-C&tcher and, after being carried 224 feet, was tossed aside an an unrecognisabie heap of twisted steel. The cab was completely cfumpled but proved substaUtial enOugh te pro» tect the occupants from mere Berious injury. Mr Hawke, the drivef of the truck, received minor cuts and abrasions but was able to return home, Messrs Orchard and Edgecombe were both taken te hospital suffering from cuts and bruises, but theif condition is satis* faetory.
