MAORI QUEEN CARNIVAL
Much Interest in Hastings C0R0NATI0N IN COSTUME Widespread interest is beiiig taken in the Maori Queen carnival to be held in Hastings at the end of this month. The carnival, which is being heid under the patronage of the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, is in aid of the funds 0f the new chureh to be ereeted at Kohupatiki iand iii Which it is proposed to incorporate the arts and crafts of the Maori people. The building will be ereeted on the lines of the old conventional wharerunanga. Five candidates are in the field, representing Porangahau, Korongata, Kohupatiki, Waimarama and Omahu. At the crowning ceremony, which will take pVace in the Assembly Hall, tlie candidates will be attired in genuine artistic M;aori costuming, and the programme will inelude several . items of Maori colouring doing honour to the various candidates.
