ENGLISH CLASSICS
Although the first of the great classic races in England is more than three months off and the Derby will be run on June 2,, the lists are already being perused in detail by entliusiasts in the Old Country. There are 164 horses left in the Derby. and Lord Astor's Early School was quoted at the beginning of the month at short odds. Others who have been 'subjects of early inquiry are Foray, who was placed at the head of the Two-Year-Old Free Handicap Sv;ecpstakes. The Hour and Le Grand Duc. All these colts are also in the Two Thousand Guineas, to be decided Tt Newmarket on April 28, and all but Foray are in the St. Leger Stakes, to be run at Doncaster on September 8. The nauiing of horses aiter promf^enl people in life or in legend is a Tavourite method of ownors who hope to bring that name again into prominence. One tlxree-year-old this year has bccn carL^lly and very adaquately givnn the title James Cookson of Neasham. mmmmmmmHmmmrnmmmimmmmm—m—mmm
