DANNEVIRKE SHOW

The Cattle Classes All breeds of cattle are catered for at the annual show of the Dannevirke A. and P. Aesociation to be beld on Februiary 9 and 10. In Aberdeen Angus, a challenge cup ' valued at 10 guineas has been donated-by the N.Z. Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders' Association, ior the best animal in the breed, the cup io be woii three times in succession or five times at intervals before becoming the property of any ono exhibitor. There is the stipulation that there must be at least ten entries in the seetion, not necossarily from ten different breeders. In addition the Breeders' Association donates cash prizes for yearling male, yearling female and two-year-old heifer, first £1 1/- and second 10/6, iu each of these classes. There is a perpetual challenge cup for most points in the Ayrshire seetion, while the Jersey breed is paTticularly well eatered t for, there being the Dannevirke and District Jersey Cattle Olub's 20-guiuea perpetual challenge cup for most points; the Annie Holden perpetual challenge cup, valued at 14 guineas, for most points, competition for this being limited to members of the Dannevirke District Jersey Cattle Club; also a perpetual challenge cup for most points in classes open to breeders in the Hawke's Bay provincial district. In Milking Shorthorns there is a challenge cup for most points and there are special cash prizes fdr champion bull and eow, both senior and junior. There is a challenge cup for most points in grade dairy cattle. The Boy-s' und Girls' Calf-Rearing Club has three separate classes, and there is a challenge cup for heifer calf ealved between August 1 and September 30, 1936, to be judged on dairy type. In fat cattle there is a challenge cup for most points in two-year-old baby beef, male or female. Animals c.oinpeting for the cud must be led' and judged in the ring. Other breeds not enumerated above. are also catered for, cash prizes being given by the association. There are so many features in the cattle seetion that consultation of the cata- . logue is essential. There is a special bchedule this year for the Kenuel Olub's show, held in conjunction witli the A. and P, Show, and application should be niade for one without delay.
