VICAR'S CRITICISM Archbishop's Speech On Abdication 'OFFICIAL CHRISTIANITY'

(Beceived 16, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 15. Attacking the ATchbishop of Canterbury's broadcast on the abdication of King Edward, the vicar, the Bev. Herbert Card. of Birmingham, said: "It may appear presumptuous to criticise, but it appears to me that official Christianity is Christianity a| its worst. After all, thejre is something called Ohristian charity, even in judgment. "It is an unldnd utterance ana makes on© feel that the disestablishment and diseudowment of the Church of England might prove its salvation. The apirit oi the whole broadcast seemed hardly in accordance with Him Who said: 'Let him without ein cast the first stone.' " Eeferring to King Edward, Mr Card said: "He won himself a place jn the hearts of the people whieh Prass leaders suecceded in denying popular expression during the crisis, but they will never succeed in baniehing ihe people 's affection "
