Crawford, who foi'mally relinquished office aB Hastings Bofougli Traffic Inspector last evening, taking up his new duties as one of the highways inspectors in th© Wellington district instead of at Whakatane as previously arl'anged. Mr. Crawford, Who leaves to-morrow for Wellington where he will assume duty on Monday, was met by the members of the office and departmental etaffs of th© Hastings Borough Council yesterday afternoon and made the recipient of a, small presentation, in the t'orm of an inscribed fountain-pen and pencil, as a token of the esteem in which he was held, In making the presentation on behalt of the staffa concerned, the Town Clerk, Mr. Noel O. Harding, congratulated Mr. Crawford on his appointment, which was a definite promotion, and wislxed him every success and prosperity. He referred to tlie excellent sei'vic© given to the Council and to the borough of Hastings by Mr. Crawford during his four years as inspector, and exprfessed regret that the happy relationship that had existed betwefen Mr. Ci'awford and the remaining membefs of the staff Was being broken.
