MAORI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

ASSEMBLY AT OKAIAWA. RUG-AIAKING DEMONSTRATION. The first monthly meeting of the Okaiawa Maori Women’s Institute was held in the Okaiawa Mission House on Tuesday. Mrs Rakena presided over an attendance of 17. The demonstration for the afternoon was rugmaking from old woven materials. This was given by Mrs Adams, of Hawera, and all members: were keenly interested. A competition for the_ best darned stocking was judged by Mrs Adams, Mrs Rakena winning the prize, with Miss K. Rei and Miss J. Rei taking second and third places respectively. On the proposal of Mrs Rakena, Mrs Adams was accorded a vote of thanks bv acclamation. Afternoon tea was _ served by the hostesses, Airs R. Phillip® l and Sister Hobbs.
