HUNTER. ROAD BR ANCH REMITS FOR EXECUTIVE The usuali monthly meeting of the Hunter Road branch of the W.DE.U. took place on Tuesday. Mrs W- EGarter presided over ' a good attendance, others present being Alesdames D. Simpson, L. Swindilehurst, AloGlaren, Startup, Seed', Chalmers, R. Garter M. Brisco, Misses Simpson, S-tairtup (2), R, Qhailmers, B. Seed and F. Seed (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Cleaver and Pitt. . Claiiresipondciuce received. during, the month was dealt with. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Page (.secretary of the Dramatic Society) expressing, sympathy with the movement, but stating that the meeting had decided to Jet tlie matter stand for this year. Owing to Mrs O. Startup being unable to attend, the executive meeting at Hawera on Thursday, June 22, Miss F. Seed was elected a delegate in her stead. The meeting decided not to send • a delegate to the conference this year. The following remits to be put before tlie executive meeting were approved: (1) That a substantial reduction hr telephone rentals to meet the times should be made; (2) that the adoption of white children by Maoris be prohibited ; (3) that State lotteries he run for the benefit of hospitals or any cha.rita.lyl e institution and that art unions be abolished ; (4) that equitable voting for town and country ratepayers on hospital and power hoard elections be provided for; (5) that organisers for the division be engaged as soon as funds ' ill permit, one for tlie north and one for the .south, Mrs Vickeridge, of Fraser Road, being nominated; (6) that an endeavour be-made to arrange a radio broadcast at least once monthly on W.D.F.U. matters; (7) that the division support, tlie .remit brought forward three years ago to raise the marriage age in the case of girls from 12 to 14 and in the case of boys from 14 to 16 years.

At the close; of the routine business of the meeting a. demonstration on decora ting a fruit Cake wais given, by Mr Streeters, of Eltham. Tlie bottom tier .of the cake, given by the Hawera branch and made by Miss F. Seed forth e W.D.F.U. conference at Wellington in July, was used for the demonstration.

Afternoon tea. was served by the hostesses, All's Chalmers and Aliss B. Seed. A competition in the making of useful articles from ai clothes peg resulted a.s follows: Mrs Garter 1, Aliss O. Simpson 2, Airs Chalmers 3. Awards in a< second competition, “Something new from something old,” were: Airs Chalmers 1, Airs Garter and Alias F. Seed 2, Airs AlcOaren 4.
