UNDERCURRENT FOR, PEACE
LONDON AND ROME ASSIST
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph
Copyright.) LONDON, June 19. “Outwairdiy Auistra-Germa.il relations were never more strained, ’ ’ says the Vienna oar, respondent of the “Manchester Guard, ran.” “The newspapers of both countries are using violently insulting language. Heavily armed Nazis and Heimwehr are massed on either side of the frontier in sufficient numbers to areate a small-scale war. “Underneath the surface, however, a strong current is running in favour of a rapprochement. This is assisted by London and Rom© which have unofficially informed Germany and .Austria not to allow the political quarrels to get out of hand. “The Austro-German tension has caused the Hungarian Prime Minister, Herr Gaimboes, suddenly to fly to Berlin to interview Herr Hitler. The visit was made at the request of Signor Mi ussolini and with the approval of the British Foreign Office.” A Vienna message states that, following inquiries, most of the recently arrested Nazis have been released.
