Mr H. B. Taylor, formerly of Tokaora, and now resident in the Whaka-tane-To Puke district, is on a short visit, to Hawera. He is accompanied by Mrs Taylor and family.
Mr P. O’Dea of Hawera, who has been confined to his home during the last two .months owing to i Unless, is making steady progress towards recovery and is expected to be about shortly.

Sir John m 1931 was appointed Comma nder-in-Cliief 01 tiie Atlantic Fleet. The resignation of Miss B. Cooper, who has been a member of the office staff for some years, was received with regret by the Hawera Borough Council last evening. The council expressed appreciation of Miss Cooper’s services and good wishes for the future.
Mr. M. R. Jones, of Hawera, president of the South Taranaki Returnee; Soldiers’ Association, left for Weil.ngton yesterday to attend the annual Dominion conference of delegates convened bv the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association.
Mrs H. Finlay, of Tokaora, who is i patient in the Bowen Street private Hospital, Wellington, is making, stead., progress towards recovery from her recent operation and is expected to be disci*urged from the 'institution in about 10 days. The Rev. J. Adams, vicar of Okato announced on ■ Sunday evening during uhe service at St. Pauls Churoli, Okato, that he had accepted the living a\ St. George’s, \K irigsland, Auckland, and that lie would l*e leaving Okato u. the end of September. The New South Wales Government announces the appointment of Mr J. Merrett as meat industry commission sr at a salary to be decided later, says a Sydney cable. Mr Merrett was formerly secretary and accountant tc the metropolitan abattoirs. The applications included many from New Zea,and and other countries.
Mr D. F. C. Saxton was yesterday received as a member of the New Plymouth Rotary 01u<» as one of the representatives" of the newspaper classification. Rotarian W. C. Weston introduced Rotarian Saxton and the acting-president (Rotarian P. J. H. White)' remarked on the value of the Press in disseminating knowledge o' Rotary and its activities.
