LONDON, June 18. The Isle of Man 24-hours Grand Prix resulted: Nuvoiari Summer (AlfaRomeo), 1953 J miles, averaging 81.39 m.pih., a record, 1; Varent (Jlmietti (Alfa-Romeo‘, 1952.9 miles, 2; Lewis Richards (Alfa-Romeo), 1889.7 miles, 3. Twenty-nine started and 13 finished.
TOURIST TROPHY RACES
AWARD FOR NEW ZEALANDER
LONDON, June 18. S. Moses, the New Zealand rider, has been presented with the Nisbet Award for pluck and endurance in the Tourist Trophy races. Moses competed in three of the foui Isle of Man races, the junior, lightweight and senior. He finished 16th in the junior in a field of 27, but withdrew in the first lap of the senior race. The Tourist Trophy races, each of which is run over the same course, involves 264 miles of extremely difficult travelling. The roads are tar-sealed and usually the more difficult corners are treated with a special non-skid preparation*, hut nevertheless crashes at high speed are frequent. The course [takes riders on winding roads up one side of a mountain and then down the other at tremendous speed, the faster machines touching nearly 120 miles an hour.
