RAWHITIROA

N.Z. LEGION MEETING

A meeting was held in the Rawliitiroad Hall on Wednesday evening, when Messrs A. K. North and W. O. Williams (Hawera) addressed residents on the aims and objects of the New Zealand Legion. . The speakers were followed with close attention, and an interesting and informative discussion followed their addresses. A committee consisting of Messrs J. Cocker, D. May and G. V. Thame (secretary) was set np to endeavour to enrol new members and distribute literature.

SOCIAL AND PRESENTATIONS. An interesting gathering took place

last Thursday evening, when friends 1 of Mis® L. Jenkins and Mr T. Cocker, who are to be married shortly, were entertained at a social gathering and presentations made of various gifts' as expressions of esteem. Mr F. E. Silver presided and assured the young couple of the kind wishes of all for their future life. A happy reply was made by Mr Cocker and the company accorded them musical honours l .

Mr G. V. Thame was M.C. and the ladies’ committee consisted: of Mesdames E. Fletcher’, J.. Kirk, O. Gernhoefer, L. Vooght, D. May, F. Cave, G. Thame and W. 'G’. Robertson. Mrs W. Hutchins, assisted by Miss Esther Cocker and Mr A. M. Wilson, supplied music for dancing, and community singing was led by Mr F. E. Silver. During the evening Mr G- Y* Thame sang two humorous songs;
