(From Out Own Correspondent.) CROQUET GLUE’S YEAR ANNUAL. REPORT PRESENTED Tiie annual meeting of the Kaiponga Ladies’ Croquet Club, was held on V\.eunesdary afternoon, when there was a ococl attendance of members. " I'he annual report congratulated the dab' on a, very successful and enjoyable season. Members, of the clup. had taken part in several tournaments organised by neighbouring clubs amt had acquitted themselves - very creditaiblv Teaaiis from sister clubs had. visited. Kuponga on many occasions and some verv pleasant games had resuitey. The competitive games between oLun members were keenly contested Airs Taut won the “A” ehampionsmp and Mrs R. EL Williams carried off the honours of the “B” championship. Ahe combined handicap doubles, A ana. a, I for the Lias a.mail trophies, _ were won bv Mesdames Evans and N. Gardner with Mesdanies Tattersall and Cook runners-up. Mesdanies Dawson, Evans and N. Gardner were the club’s winners of the N.Z. Croquet Council’s A, B and G buttons and represented the club at the final play-off for these trophies 'at Hawera. Mrs ..Williams was runner-up for the South Taranaki E championship at the association’s annual tournament, for which achievement the ciuib heartily congratulated her. Mrs Dawson was also to be conowatulated on reaching the semi-finals m the South Taranaki ladies’ championship. The club’s team for the Campbell and McL'Dowie Cups also reached the semi-finals. The finances of the clufb were in n Very, healthy ih.e foal-ance-sheet disclosing a credit of £l4 Is lid. The financial year opened with a, debit but, thanks to the splendid co-operation of all 1 members, this was turned into a* credit balance-. The thanks of the club were tendered to Mr Dawson for supervising Ike work done on the lawn, to Mr Fallows for again auditing the to the outgoing president and committee and to all members who had taken charge of the afternoon tea arrangements.. Referring to the work of the caretaker the report said the lawns had been in a perfect condition all the season, the terraces and hedges always neatly trimmed and the marking of the greens a credit. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted: President, Mrs J. Dawson; vice-presidents, Mesdamesj Williams and Brewer; secretary, Mrs A. Y. Tait; committee, Mesdanies J. and! N. Gardner, Cook, Tattersall and Lewis; delegates to S.T.C. A., Mesdanies Dawson and! Tate; hon. auditor, Mr F. W. Fallows.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

SOCIAL AND DANCE-

The Ivapoiiga Women’s Institute held its second annual social and dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, when there was an excellent attendance. Last year’s function was held in , the Parish Ball, but owing to the success of that venture it wais decided this year to engage a larger hall and the holding; of this year’s social in the Town Hall was fully justified by the attendance. . Added interest to the evening’s entertainment was the exhibition of handcrafts by members of the institute. The handwork exhibited was of a varied and interesting nature and comprised the section which the Kaponga ladies are exhibiting at the forthcoming Winter Sh-ow at Hawera. During the evening a euchre tourney drew 70 players. Mr C. H. Brewer acted as siupeirvasoir. Prizets were don- 1 ated by Mssdlaimes Niacolls (Aiwatuna) and W. A. Anderson (Kaponga) and : wore won by Mrs R. D. Da-gg with 17 points and Mr J. Smith (Rowan) with 14 points. Dancing was enjoyed throughout the evening to music by Miss M. Guy (Matapu) and extras were played on the accordeon by Mr T. AusA Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss M. Ivehely and Mr M. Shearon, and a statuette.by Miss I. Melville and Mr J. Melville. A competition for a wicker-work foot-stool (made by Mrs Brewer) was won by Mass IT. Cleaver the winning number being 2-9. Hie' institute stall arranged in the interests of the funds was in charge of Mos-dames' Kehely and Webby and materially assisted the proceeds. Hostesses, for-, the evening were Mesdanies Davies, Dawson, Doyle, Death, Evans and Mrss J. Dempsey. . After supper the president, Mrs C. 11. Brower, thanked patrons for their support and also Mr W. G. Oran, Mrs H. J. Blackwell and all -other members who had assisted in making the evening the ] evening the great success it had been. PERSONAL AND GENERAL. On Tuesday evening the St. Mark’s Social Committee continued its fortnightly flag 500 evenings. Owing to inclement weather and counter attractions the attendance was not quite up to the standard. Nevertheless a very pleasant evening was spent. The prizes were won by Mrs Dawson, Miss Austin and Messrs T. and J. Austin. Music -for a short dance was played by Mrs Evans. Mr and Mrs W. Shearer, of Te Puke, have been on a visit to Mr and Mrs J. W. H. Gardner, of Manaia. Road. Mr 13. L. Abbott has returned from Auckland. The Hawera Savage Club was. to give a concert at Kaponga on June 29 in aid of local unemployed relief funds, but the effort has had to be postponed owing to Ha wera Show Week and other events clashing.
