At the annual meeting of the Hawera Bowling Club on Friday it was agreed to waive the charge for small lockers and for insuranceis and to allow numbers to enter without charge for all club competitions with the exception of the singles championships. This was estimated to total a saving of nearly ten shillings to individual members.

On Friday night a number of New Plymouth■ shop windows were damaged by scorings apparently made with a diamond. In most cases the damage is not .severe, • but in one or two places the glass has been scored heavily enough to make it appear ns if a hard jolt' would be sufficient to cause the window to fall in. The irregularity of the scratching® makes it almost certain that they were made out of sheer wantonness.

“Speaking of the curious requests that reach us,” states the annual report of the New Zealand Ailpine and Rock Garden Society, “we were rung up one day iby a lady who. had tried in vain, iso she said, every nurseryman in Wellington for water-lily blooms. She told! i* she was to be married next week and had always wished for a bouquet of water lilies. In about ten minutes a meeting Was arranged with one of our members and the lady was able toi gather herself sufficient lily blooms for her bridal bouquet. Yo - can imagine the pleasure it gave Mr ——. to be able to gratify such a. whims ieal request. ’ ’ The Trustees (Sir William Hunt and jfir Alexander Roberts) recently appointed by His Excellency the Gover-nor-General, have nnw held their first meeting and arrangements arc in train for the administration of the Gover-nor-General 's Winter Relief Fund.
