' BUTTER. A week of quiet trading at improved prices is recorded in this week ? s cables, with a slight' easing of Is per cwt. in quotations. In spite of this latter feature a strong feeling is said to be in evidence and the outlook generally appears to be more promising. Recent sales effected have left little* butter unsold in South Taranaki, consequently little activity is reported on) the part of f.o.b. buyers. The increase in butter gradings recorded in 1 previous, months has been fully maintained, the figures'for May being 5941 tons compared mth 4873 tons for the corresponding month of last year. For the ten month period to May 31 the figures are 123,660 tons compared with 101,088 tons, or an increase of over 22 p.e. constituting a record .production for the Dominion. Under the conditions, therefore, the firm tone of the market is distinctly encouraging. The average retail London price of New Zealand butter remains at lOd per lb., with Danish at lid to Is per lb. CHEESE. Similar conditions prevail .in the cheese market to those applying, to butter. A period of quiet .trading has been enjoyed at the improved prices with a slight easing in quotations, but a spirit of confidence in the future pervading the market. Offers of ssd for unshipped cheese were again in evidence during the week, with 5 3-8 d for unshipped and afloat produce. No further sales are reported, however, at these prices. ■Shipments from Patea continue to be' heavy, and loadings this week comprise last week ini March manufacture, leaving all April and May make yet to go forward. (Cheese manufacture for the season has finished and those cheese companies now receiving milk are making butter, the bulk of which has been sold during the past few weeks. 'The London stock position remains particularly sound, considering the increase in make during tue season, actual figures at June 9 being 117,741 crates, compared with 163,206 , crates for the corresponding .period of last year. Average London retail price of New Zealand cheese remains at 6d per lb. LONDON MERCHANT’S CABLE. Messrs "Henry A. Lane and Co., Ltd., Hawera, have to-day received the following cabled advice from their London office:— New Zealand Cheese.—White 48s, coloured 535; market qui?t, but good feeling prevails.
