ESCAPE IN NIGHT ATTIRE
FIVE OCCUPANTS OF HOUSE. CITY RESIDENCE GUTTED. (By IVlptfrapLi—A«wooiat.ion) WELLINGTON, June 16. A spectacular fire that resulted in the destruction of a two-storey house at No. 1 Coromandel Street occurred this week. The five occupants —three adults’ and two children —escaped in their night attire. None of the furniture or personal effects was saved from the building owing to. the rapid progress the flames made when the outbreak was discovered. Two canaries and a dog were the only possessions the occupants, Mr and Mrs Larsen, were able to take with them from the burning house. Special precautions' were taken to prevent the Ewart hospital from catching alight. The patients, although only 40 or 50 yards from the fire, showed no alarm and no damage was done to the hospital building.
