HAWERA CROQUET CLUB

FIFTH ANNUAL MEETING. SUCCESSFUL SEASON REVIEWED. The fifth annual meeting of members of the Hate era Croquet Club was held at the Borough Council Chambers in Hawera yesterday afternoon, when, the ('Mayoress (Mrs J". E. Campbell), vicepresident, occupied the chair. Others in attendance were Alesdames F. W. Horner, S. Adamson, J. B. Murdoch, iW. G. Strange, A. H. Guy, J. H. Fletcher, J. Syme, A. E. Wills, J. Dingle, F. A. Evans, F. C. King, R. Wylie, and A. E. Stevens (honorary secretary) and Misses. B. Young, M. C. Power, M. Cameron and M. Suttoir. Several apologies for absence were received. “The club is to he congratulated on the very successful season which members enjoyed,” .stated the committee in its animal report. “We have a membership of 32 active members, eight honorary members and one country, member. During tlie year the lawns were lent to the South Taranaki Croquet Association for its annual tournament, the members of the club catering for lunch and afternoon teas, which were a souroe of revenue. Keen interest was shown in the season’s competitions’ and the club is indebted to the winners for foregoing their trophies. Play again was of a very high standard. Teams were entered for the McL’Dowie and Campbell Cups, but were unsuccessful. Congratulations are offered to the Patea and Eltham Clubs on their wins., while Airs McKay also is to he congratulated on her success at the New Plymouth tournament. The results of the various competitions were as follow: A grade championship, Mrs McKay; runner-up in A grade championship, Airs Evans -. intermediate championship. Airs Horner: runner-up in intermediate championship. All’s J. Syme; B grade championship, Airs Dingle; run-ner-up in B grade championship, Airs Sinclair; Pacey rose bowl, Airs Horner ; runner-up in Pacey rose howl. Airs Winks ; A grade ' handicap doubles, Mesdames' Wills and King; runners-up in A grade, handicap doubles, Alesdames Winks and Syme: _ B grade handicap doubles, Airs Dingle and Alis-s Young; runners-up in B grade handicap doubles. Mesdames White and Cameron: silver buttons, Airs Winks (A grade). Airs Syme (B grade), Aliss Johnstone (C grade). A fete dav was held in aid of club funds, at which a lamb was donated by Air Clegg and competed for bv tho se who attendedThe day proved a great success and. the funds of the club were considerablv benefited. Social afternoons were held and 1 were much enjoyed by members. The thanks of the club are due to Air G. J.
