REPORTS BEFORE THE BOARD,

WORK OF ADMINISTRATION

The monthly meeting of the Patea Hospital Board Avas held on Tuesday, Mr C. R. Honeyfield presiding over a full attendance of members, namely Messrs W. 11. Watkins, C. E. Johnston, W. Back, A. T. Christensen, J. Lupton, R. J. Watt, R. G. Scown and H. Middleton. Dr. W. T. Simmons, medical superintendent, reported that there Avas an increase of four patients in the hospitals during the month. With 20 (11 male and 0 female) in the hospital at the beginning of the month, 11 (7 male and 4 female) had been admitted and 7 (G male and 1 female) had been discharged. There had been no deaths, so were noAA' 12 male and 12 female patients. Both reports Avere adopted. Matron Kelly reported that Nurse Jones returns from her six months’ training at Wanganui Hospital on June 30, and with Nurse Kettles Avould be sitting for her final examination in December. Nurses Forlong and McKee would commence their six months in Wanganui on July 1. Messrs Christensen and Middleton were appointed the visiting committee for next month. A reciprocal agreement was agreed to Avirli the Wallace Fiord Hospital Board.

A question of a. Christchurch inmate of the hospital being maintained by the board or the North Canterbury Board AA’as discussed. He had been admitted a month before the reciprocal agreement avus made Avitli the -South Island Board. He had offered £1 a week during his treatment, in the hospital. It was a question Avhether the board would debit the North Canterbury Board with the maintenance fees prior to the agreement or not, but it was decided to do so, and accept the inmate’s offer for the rest of the period, which would be in agreement with the reciprocal arrangement made Avith the Canterbury Board.
