The Ascot race meeting opened sensationally. Steve Donoghue was thrown heavily when Tavern dashed from the barrier at the start of -the Prince of Wales Stakes. The stewards suspended Michael Bearv for the remainder of the meeting. Beary was also thrown. He denies that lie caused the accident by trying to beat the start.

The famous trainer, F. Leader, who trained Gainslow, winner of the Asoet Gold Vase yesterday, was motoring home ut Newmarket with his wife at midnight when the car crashed into a lorry and both were killed.
