ROAD THROUGH SOUNDS
SOUTHLAND-WEST COAST PLAN
ESTIMATED £1,000,000 COST.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, June IS,
Construction of a road from Tuatapere around the coast to Puysegur and from there through the sounds to Milford, eventually joining the west coast road system at Jackson’s Bay, was suggested to the executive of the Southland League to-night in a letter from Mr R. A. Anderson, C.M.G.
There was general agreement on the far-reaching possibilities of the vast project, which the president of the league (Mr W. Hinchey) estimated would cost a million, pounds. A committee was appointed to study the scheme from the point of view of practicability and cost and to discuss it with Mr Anderson and if possible the Minister of Public Works.
