Contributions to the early literary history of Canterbury Province, New Zealand, were the subject of a paper which Mrs. William Moore (“Dora Wilc-ox”) road to the Australian English Association in Sydney. Mrs. Moore made special reference to Samuel Butler, who, she said, occupied a curious position in English' literature.
