SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING-
The monthly meeting of the Manaia State school committee was held last evening, those present being Messrs T. A. Bridge (chairman). Cl. Butler, G. B. Stoddart, V. Winter, B. Bloor, H. Silby and O. T. Parry. The headmaster reported that the average primary roll for the month was 232.6 and the secondary 40, average attendances being res-p-ecth ely 214.6 and 85.3.
A junior Red Cross Society is being formed at the school under the direction of Sister Small. This concerns chiefly the girls of the senior and secondary classes. In other departments Red Cross circles would be formed under control of the teachers. The aim was to co-ordinate the efforts of home and school and health departments. 4 report was submitted bv the seven-a-side and basketball tonrnamotnt commit-tot?: congratulating the Manaia High School on winning the secondary se.ven-a-s'.-de Rugby game and the girls, runners-up in the basketball matches. A special meeting of the- committee will be held next Wednesday evening to consider changing the schools hours from 9to 9.30 a.in. during the winter months.
PERSONAL
Sympathy with Mr. V. H. Adlam in the' loss of liis daughter was expressed bv the Manaia. school committee last evening.
