Patrolman Mack and a party of New Guinea police who wore pursuing escaped prisoners were attacked by. other natives. The latter had already killed the. escapees and thought the police were a punitive expedition to avenge this crime. They were routed and given a sharp lesson, although during the scrimmage four arrows struck Mr Mack and a police boy was hit. Their wounds are not serious.
