MAORI CHILD DROWNED

FATALITY AT OKAIAWA

FATE OF TWO-YEAR-OLD BOY.

Shortly before .one o’clock this afternoon Terukenga Raha, the two-year-old sou of Mr and Mrs Jack Raha,' who reside on the Kieley Road near Okaiawa, wandered away from his home towards the Inaha River, a short distance away. Some few minutes later he was found floating face downwards in the water by other children playing further along the bank. It is thought that the child was attracted to the water’s edge by the sound of the others playing. There was a. good deal of sedge and cress growing along the bank and in walking through it he apparently dropped into deep water and was carried -down by the earren". The body was. recovered and an attempt made at resuscitation, but without success. Dr. H. Douglas Timerou, of Hawera, was summoned and on 'nls arrival with Constable Pidigeon, of Norma-nby, life was pronounced extinct.
