TRAM PASSENGER KILLED
WOMAN STANDING ON STEP.
HEAD STRUCK BY CENTRE POLE

AUCKLAND, June 12. Shocking injuries to the head, which proved fatal an hour later, were received by Mrs Yvonne Wheadon, aged 28, iwhen ishe came into violent contact with a centre-pole while standing on the front step of a. tramcar in Pitt Street this evening. The conductor of the tramcar said Mrs Wheadon and her two children boarded the car at Point Chevalier When the tram reached Point Chevalier theatre the children left the car to go to the pictures. Their mother continued the trip toward the city. »‘As we were coming down Pitt Street the woman, who was in the front half of the tram, suddenly left her seat and hurried toward the front platform,” said the conductor. -'She looked over the chain on the Tight hand side of the platform and stood for a moment on the step. She was immediately struck violently against the centre-pole and knocked from the step on to the roadway.” Airs. Wheadon was suffering grave head injuries and died in hospital. She is survived by her husband and two children. The husband left home for a camp in the country this morning. The children, who are young, are bein tr cared for by friends.
