■ + The Government Meteorologist telegraphed to-dav: The indications are for variable and strong breezes, but northerly. strong to gale prevailing, and backing by west to south after about 16 hours; expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts; heavy rain is to be expected, with rivers rising shortly, and the weather will probably become colder; barometer falling, but rising shortly; sea heavy; tides good.
