PROHIBITION AGENT.
\ SEQUEL TO FORGERY CHARGE. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSodIATTOV—COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, Dec. 26. - As the result of powerful church in.fluenee. W. H. Anderson, formerly superintendent of the Anti-Saloon' League in the New York State, lias left prison after serving nine months of one of the sentences of 1 two years imposed on- him for forgery, of which he was convicted.in the third degree last January.
Anderson, in stepping outside the .prison gates, was re-arrested, pursuant to bench warrants' charging him with larceny and extortion, on which Anderson ’s friends will undoubtedly furnish bail to secure his temporary liberty. Members of the Anti-Saloon League express confidence that the charges of larceny and extortion will be speedily dismissed, asserting that much' evidence under these charges was adduced during the forgery trial. Nevertheless it is scarcely expected that Anderson will ever return to anti-saloon work, since it is known that one of the factors in influencing his parole was a promise never to return to work for that organisation.. >
' Anderson further promised to cease Ilia attacks on the courts and prosecuting .officers in connection with, his conviction. Nevertheless it is reported that the Aiiti-Saloon League hasi offered to re-employ Anderson, deeming his aggressive and often vitriolic methods particularly effective. Anti-saloon officials declined to confirm or deny the offer, but one official gave an inferential opinion, saying that the present board of the league 19 composed of honest men and ivill deal with the problem as honest men and Christians.
