THE WEATHER! PROSPECTS. Although ‘ the' barometer lias 'risen several points in Sbuth 'Taranaki; and at . the time of; writing the weather looks‘as if it will befine, ;; thev.Government meteorological office issued a forecast last evening that does not read very encouragingly. However, it is to be hoped .that the ;weath©r experienced will be better than, the Meteorologist anticipates. Following is liis forecast, made yesterday afternoon : —'Present indications . are! for strong and squally. . ..south-westerly winds, veering to south-easterly,south-ward of . New Plymouth .' .and Castlepoint. and to north-easterlies! shortly 'northwards.. Gold, changeable and showery weather may be expected genially, and heavy, showers Jin EastCoast districts. Barometer, rising in the south, but falling shortly l in the north. J The present unsettlement is due to a westerly _ depression, which has intensified considerably since passing eastward to Chatharh Islands. There is also evidence of the development of a disturbance, to the northwest of New Zealand, which make further outlook. not promising.
