PROGRESS.

MR H. N. LESTER’S ESTABLISHMENT.

A little over two years ago Mr H. N. Lester came to Hawera and entered business. Prior to thin Mr Lester nad been attached to a wholesale business, but seeing ■an opportunity, to strike out for himself, and having faith in Hawera, he did not hesitate to follow an inclination which accorded with his judgment. At the time there were circumstances, with which Mr Lester had no connection,- which led to some iieadshaking over the point of the- wisdom of the newcomer’s choice of business. Starting with a determination that clean trading, service and full stocks of- attractive lines'should .be his claim upon public patronage, Mr Lester has never looked back, and his business has steadily increased. Naturally this result has made Mr Lester a staunch advocate for the. town as a. trading centre, and he is one of the keenest members of the .Retailers’ Association; with a seat on the executive. A visit, to-day to the establishment under review will afford proof of what has been stated in regard to the progress made. Extension lias been made to the fullest extent the premises permits, and the variety, quality and magnitude of the stock displayed reflects the enterprise of the proprietor. In the periods of ordinary business conditions a thousand and one articles of everyday usefulness, books, stationery, toys, fancy goods, etc., are in steady demand, but in the holiday seasons, especially the Christmas and* New Year season, extra assistance has to . be called in to attend to the wants of the, streams of purchasers, and business booms. Well satisfied as he was with the trade last Christmas, Mr Lester states that so far the returns of the present holiday season have far exceeded those of a year ago for the corresponding period. With such a gratifying experience Mr Lester looks confidently to the future, and is; in the happy position of being able to - meet his patrons with the assurance that he has pleased them in the past and is better equipped than ever to continue to do SO. * ;
