_ Mr William Ooote, Unionist member tor Lister in the House of Commons, died suddenly at Belfast (says a London cable). ' Messrs O. Hawken and J. R. Corrigan, M’s.P., returned last night by the ma i 1 . tra i n from. Wei 1 ington, where they have been attending the investiture of Major-General Sir Charles Fergusson as GoyernoivGenefal.. Mr Cyril. Roy Knight, an Australian, but now of New York, has been appointed professor of architecture at the Auckland University College. Mr. Knight is a native of Sydney and is only 31 years of age. He served overseas with the Australian Field Engineers,- and has studied in England, Paris and America. He holds first--class-honours for his degree in architecture at the Liverpool University, and is an associated member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Press Assn. The death has occurred at Mataheru of Parafene Ngata, lather of the Hon. A. T. Ngata, M.P.. aged between 70 and 80 rears (says a Gisborne telegram). Paratene Ngata was one of the foremost members of the famous Ngatiporou tribe. He was a keen .supporter of anv movement to bring Maori laud on the East Coast under cultivation, and supported advanced ideas in farming. In the early days deceased was known.throughout the North Island as a. native agent and Land Court assessor. His wife predeceased him many years ago. Deceased, who has been ailing for the last 12 months, leaves three sons, Renata. Hone and the Hon. Apirana Ngata, M.P.
