STRONG FINANCIAL POSITION.
OF ELTHAM COUNTY COUNCIL. SOME ILLUMINATING FIGURES. The fact that there is not another county council between Wanganui and New Plymouth in such a strong financial position as the Eltham County Council reflects credit on those who have been responsible for the administration of that local bodv. - At the monthly meeting of til© “council on Saturday an interim balance-sheet was placed before the councillors The chairman (Cr C. J. Belcher) said that on April 1, 1924, the council’s bank balance showed a credit of £3961 1/s. Receipts from April 1 to December 10 totalled' £14,979 Iss, and expenditure from April 1 to November 8 totalled £15,303 9s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £3638 3s 2d. Rates levied tor the year 1924-25 totalled £18,946 5s 4d, and rates collected up to December 10 totalled £7lOl Is Id? This meant that the amount of rates outstanding amounted to £11,845 Is 3d. ‘The position,” said the chairman, is even better than it appears on Pto e '\_ as included in the receipts of £14,9,9 there js about £2OOO of loan money which will-make the balance even better. We will be in credit at the end of March. •
Cr Campbell: There is not oiie county that I know of that is in the same position. The chairman: I know every county between Wanganui and New Plymouth, and there is not one in the same position as the Eltham County Council.
