Gn the motion of Mr T. P. Anderson, Mr. R R. Tyrer,' of Stratford, was admitted yesterday as a barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand by Mr. Justice MacGregor. M r - C - Reynolds, ,of the Stratford lanway staff, who has been appointed stationmaster at Ashhurst,- relinquishes ins duties to-day and will leave for his new station, at the beginning of next week. » -

A very well-known Auckland resident for over 50 years, Mrs. Margaret Doug as Sellerff, died .at Parnell on luesday says the New Zealand Herald. Mrs. Scherff was' the widow of Mr. I< ranz Scherff, who for many years was a prominent Auckland merchant. is. Scherff was also well known as the owner of the private hotel Glenaiyon, which she conducted in Svmonds Street, then at the old Admiralty House, and also at tile present buildinf Waterloo quadrant. Mrs. retired from the management of Ciena Ivon when the property changed hands fairly recently. Mr F. W. Greenwood, pastor of the Church of Christ, Hawera, left yesterday for Auckland on a three weeks’ holiday. Since he has been in Hawera district Mr Greenwood has done splendid work in cementing the unity of the church in the district, and his many friends wish him a pleasant holiday and hope that his splendid efforts may he still more fruitful. During his the work will be done by the office-bearers of the church.

Mr J. Lowry, B.Sc., in engineering, of London University, has been . appointed instructor in engineering theory at the Wanganui Technical College. Mr Lowry is also an associate of the Royal College of Science, Dublin. He has had long exuerience in shipbuilding yards in England, and his last appointement of eight years was with Parsons Limited as engine tester. He has had thre§ years’ experience in New Zealand technical' schools, first at Napier and later at Christchurch. He is highly classified, being in Division 1, Class 5, in the Educational Departgrading list. Mr Lowry takes up his duties at the beginning of the New Year.

Mr, T. P. O’Connor, “Father” of the last House of Commons and of its predecessor, and “Father”-designate of the next, has a paternal record unique in Parliamentary annals. He has sat in the House of Commons without a break since 1880 —first for Gahvay and since 1885 for the Scotland Division, which contains the Irish quarter of Liverpool. He is virtually the last Parliamentary survivor of" the Irish Nationalist Party, which exercised to great an inrluence on the fortunes of British politics in the years before the war. Though he has never held office in a British Government, his outstanding Parliamentary position was recently recognized by his being made a member of the Privy Council. One of the bestknown journalists of his time, he is still, at 76 years of age, actively engaged in his calling.
