TUNISIAN MOVEMENT.
INDEPENDENCE WANTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Nov. 27. The Paris correspondent‘of The Times reports that a disquieting situation has arisen in the Frenoh protectorate of (Tunis. It is now admitted that a young Tunisian movement is taking definite shape, 'and with’ Communist encouragement is assuming the character of a Nationalist demand for independence.
’ M. Lumen St. French, the ResidentGeneral m Tunis, has come to Paris specially to discuss the situation, and he has- had a lengthy conference with the Premer (M. Her riot). Secrecy is mantained, hut it is understood that M. Hernot has ordered an official inquiry into •piffiars in Tunis. Tunis, a French protectorate in North Africa, extends about 550 miles alorm the Mediterranean Sea between Al- - and Tripoli. Its area is 45.000 square miles, and the population comprises mostly Bedouin Arabs and Kabyles.
