KAPONGA CROQUET CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The VAt Home’’ held in the Parish Hall, Kaponga, on Thursday evening, under the auspices of the Kaponga Ladies’ Croquet Club, was attended by a large number of supporters of the' club arid , achieved very - satisfactory results. Tasteful decorations lent the hall an attractive appearance, and the arrangements made by the club officials provided enjoyable entertainment for all in attendance. *A progressive euchre tournament was participated in by the majority of the gathering, the ladies’ and gentlemen’s prizes being won respectively by Mrs. L. Shepherd and Mr. A. Parker. Other competitive games, the. winners of which, were Mesdames Anderson and Jones and Mr. R„ Hill, also created much interest. A dainty supper was served, after which anappreciated dance programme concluded the entertainment.
ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual general meeting of the club was held during the previous iVeelc. Miss Bennie (retiring president) occupied the chair until the election of officers was completed, when, she was succeeded by the incoming president,(Mrs. W. E* Hollard). Mrs. J. Dawson (retiring hon. secretary and treasurer) presented the bal-ance-sheet, ivhich disclosed a small credit, and was adopted after a formal discussion. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. W. E. Hollard; vice-president, Mrs. R. E. Williams; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs. J. Hessell; executive committee, Mesdames R.. J. Cook. J. Dawson, IV. Hislop, C. Tonkin,' and Miss Bennie. Mrs. Hessell intimated'that she would be absent from the district during the next two months. Miss Bennie was appointed to officiate as hon. secretary and treasurer during Mrs. Hessell’s absence. The annual subscription fee was fixed at 15s, reducible to 10s if paid bv December 24. The offer of Mrs. Bennie, senr., to again allow the club the use of’her lawns as a playing ground during the coming season was accepted with thanks.
Arrangements were made to organise an open golf croquet tournament to mark the official opening of .th e season’s play, which it-"was decided would be held on Thursday, December 4 at Mrs. Bennie’s residence, Manaia Road Ihe secretary was authorised to advise contemporary clubs of the opening day, and to invite their -representation, it being, further decided to extend a cordial invitation to all desirous of being- present.
Concluding the meeting, the president expressed the hope that the coming season would prove enjoyable to members and successful to the club.
