FIFTEEN YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 21. At the Supreme Court this morning, John Edward Jeffreys rvas sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for attempting to murder his Avife by pushing her over a cliff at Glentui. Judge Adams said he' was satisfied the prisoner did not act on a sudden or uncontrollable impulse. The AAdiole of the circumstances indicated a carefully thought out plan.
WANGANUI SESSIONS
WANGANUI, Nov. 21. At 4-he Supreme Court Mr. Justice McGregor Dassed the following sentences : Patrick Hayden, for an unnatural offence and indecent assault at Horopito, on the fnajor charge ten years and five years on the other,- the sentences to be cumulative. The jftdge remarked that had the accused been younger and more robust he would have ordered a flogging. Clifford J. Dudson, for theft at Palmerston North, was ordered reformative treatment for twelve months. William Keith Olds and Alexander John McLean, for indecent assault on a male, AA'ere each sentenced to five years.
