DARING BURGLARIES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT A:, LONDON, Nov. i 6. The latest of a series of daring burglaries attributed to a than known as the “cat burglar” on account of his methods, was discovered on Saturday. The thief had scaled the front of a house in Kenningtbn during the night, entered a bedroom through an open window, and stole jewellery valued at £3OOO while the occupants were sleeping a few feet away. The police lately have been keeping a special watch in the West End for the thief , who is apparently a skilled climber. His method is always the same. ALLEGATIONS OF LIBEL. SYDNEY, Nov. 16. It is announced that Sir W. Arrol and Co. have issued a writ claiming damages against Mr. Ball (Minister for Works), Mr. Coopei: (Under-Secrotary for Works) and Dr. Bradfield (engineer and designer of the North Shore bridge) in respect of an alleged libel contained in the report of Dr. Bradford to the Minister bearing upon the steel which Sir W. Arrol’a company proposed to use in the construction of the bridge. It is unofficially stated that the damages claimed amount to £30,000. BEATTY TO RETIRE:. LONDON, Nov. 16. The News of the World understands from a high authority that Lord Beatty, Commander-in-Cliief of the Grand Fleet, will resign at the end of the year. He will probably he succeeded by Vice-Admiral Sir Osmond de B. Brock;
