SCOUTS’ FAREWELL. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATIONWELLINGTON, Nov. 16. There, was a great gathering of Boy hcouts and Girl Guides on Newtowm Park on Saturday to say good-bye to the Governor-General (Viscount Jellieoe) and Viscountess Jellicoe. The Hon. George Jellicoe Avas amongst the Scouts and. the Hon. Prudence Jellicoe iim ong tlie Girl Guides., Viscount Jellicoe was presented by the Boy Scouts with a model scout done in silver and greenstone, and Viscountess Jellicoe received from the Guides a riding whip Avith a greenstone handle silver-mounted.
COLLAPSE DUEING OPEEATION.
DUNEDIN, Nov. 16. John Alexander Hall Anderson, a single man 51 years of age, Avas admitted to the Dunedin hospital on Friday evening suffering from severe abdonienal pains. He Avas operated on on Saturday night and he died during ,the operation. At an inquest this afternoon the coroner found that death Avas due to gangrene and an obstruction of the boAvels. I - . MASONIC GATHERING. WELLINGTON. Nov. 16. A service for Masons was held at* St. Mark’s Church, Wellington, this afternoon. A large and representative gathering included the GovernorGeneral (the Grand Master), avlio read one of the lessons, AA r hile the others Avere read by the Rev. J. H. Sykes (a past grand chaplain). The Dean of Nelson (the Very Rev. C. F. AslceAv) preached an appropriate sermon from the text: “Fear God, honour the King and love our brethren.” The service Avas held to commemorate the signing of the armistice six years ago and in memory, more especially, of the men of the Order who fell in the Great War. The Prime Minister was unable to be present on account of illness.
CHINESE AND OPIUM. NAPIER, Noa t . 16. On Saturday tivo Chinese were arrested on charges of having in their possession and smoking opium.
