MEETING LAPSES. A few unsecured creditors’ claims, amounting in all to £79 9s, were the capse of George "William Hayward, a labourer on the Te Roti-Opunake railj va y> filing a petition in bankruptcy, but for reasons best known to themselve/j none of the creditors thought it worth while- tc- attend the meeting called for this afternoon, and, consequently it was left to the Deputy Official Assignee (Mi- R. S. Sage) to wind up the estate. Bankrupt, in his sworn statement, deposed that he was compelled two years ago to leave Eltham because of being forced to surrender a property to the mortgagees. He said he was given to understand that if thefe was ally equity in this, and another property at Kuponga lie would be advised, but he had'heard nothing so far. He said: <- I am a married man with four children, and am at present working on lite le Roti-Opunake irailway.” As lie bad been sued, and bis wages were nor sufficient to pay he had been forced to file.
