OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN BLACK, NEW PLYMOUTH.
Another of Taraanki’s Maori war veterans has passed to his rest in the person of Mr. John Black, who died at New Plymouth at an early hour this morning. Deceased, who was in Ins 82nd year, had spent the whole of his life in the province and took part in the first engagement of the Maori war (Waireka). He also saw much service in the Bushrangers. The Ip-t® Mr. Black was a brother of Messrs ™ ac ] c (Hawera), William and Alfred Black (Awakino), the sisters being Mesdames R. Dingle and W Humphries (New Plymouth) and t! Elliott (Waitara). The late Mr. Black leaves a son and four daughters, one °f Mrs - Lee > of the teaching stall of Hawera school. To the relatives will be extended the sincere sympathy of numerous friends throughout iaranaki, ’and in these expressions we desire to be associated.
