“He was not an energetic worker by any means, Your Worship,” said a witness of a labourer in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court (reports the Christchurch Press). “For instance, when lie was in my employ I sent him. out into a paddock to dig some potatoes, .and it took him four days to dig two sacks. The only thing he was good at was breaking tools and implements—he was excellent at that!”
