Cook had injured an arm, and the match fell through. But Heeney, Avith a more than useful reputation “doAvn under,” Ava& taken in hand by Mr. Bernard Mortimer, Avho Avas the first manager of Joe Beckett, and articles Avere signed Avith Scott, AA'ho, if Ins form' has been variable, Avas -seen, at his best in liis defeats of Cook and the big American,' Andre Anderson. The New Zealander had received a thorough training at Portsmouth/ and the London mail, Avith adAUce from Bornbr. Wells, was very fit. There was a first-rate capacity house, Avhich. included many of the best-knoAyn men in the fistic game. A number of seats near the ringside Avere filled by the NeAv Zealand Rugby football team. Going the full distance, Scott, Avas a pronounced A'ictor. If the bout Avas lacking in quality, it avus stern and Avilling enough. Neither man possessed a really stinging bIoAV, but Scott had more skill, and was the quicker. Heeney was splendid in his] strength and ability to absorb punishment. He fell aAvay markedly in the later stages.
