The police shadowed two well-dressed Chinese escorting three packing cases of unusual size, and when they were opened they disgorged three terrible emaciated coolies just arrived by steamer from Singapore. One, shortly after his release, died from starvation. The two: others confessed that they had been in the boxes for a month. The two Chinese escorting the boxes were arrested.
