SEACORD AGAIN.
WIDOW FOOTS THE BILL. An echo of the doings of H. de la Seacord was heard in the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when a local plumber, Alexander Philip, claimed the sum of £2 4s 6d from a widow, Mary Morgan, for work done. Plaintiff conducted his own case and Mr. P. O’Dea appeared for defendant. Plaintiff said that Alexander C. J. Welsh (or H. de la Seacord, as he was later known) came to his house and said that Mrs. Morgan was building a motor shed and she wanted him to do the plumbing work. Plaintiff saw Mrs. Morgan,' and she told him to make the job as cheap as possible. Plaintiff did the work, and when Welsh got into trouble and was sent to prison plaintiff wrote to. Mrs. Morgan stating that he was looking to her for payment. He, however, had sent the account in the first place to Welsh, who had told him that he would attend to payment
The defendant,' Mary Morgan, said .she had had no conversation with Philip about the work; in fact, she had not been aware that the work was done until gome time afterwards. The Magistrate said it was proved that the work had been done, and he accepted the plaintiff’s version of the matter. Judgment was given for'the plaintiff for the amount of the claim, with costs.
