ENGLISH CAR’S STRIKING PERFORMA NCE. , . IN GRUELLING CONTEST. ' The English car has enjoyed, since the very first clays of motoring, an pii* viable and well-deserved, repntatioh /for fine quality, finish and superior stamina. During the last few years, with their country depressed ami exhausted after its leading part in the Great War, English car manufacturers have been (unable to keep pace with the tremendous ’’ output of foreign cars.. As a consequoiico, motorists havo become ascus* tomed to seeing American and other foreign cars figure prominently in the various track races and endurance tests. , Now, however, the English carAias come back. The demand for it• increases every day; and in this connection motorists will be interested fo hear of the striking and meritorious performance of a standard-type A.rm-strong-Siddeley car in a recent big Australian reliability contest. This was the Royal Automobile Club’s nine days ’ reliability touring contest, which* starting from Brisbane on September 20, embraced a torn of 1100 miles over rough roads and mountain ranges, in weather which vaiied from blinding heat to tropical downpours. Twenty-nine cars started in gruelling contest, the Armstrong-Sid-delev car being driven by Mr R. RhevU ben, a private member of the olub-4-not a professional driver. V, In the awarding of points, the, judges took into consideration re-, liability, petrol consumption, aceelera- ' tion, speed attained in hill climb and : “flying half-mile.’’ The standard type 30 horse-power Armstrong-Sid-delev car achieved third place in this great endurance trial; Mr. Rheuben had the honour of being awarded the ' Dunlop Cup for the best performance by a private member of the club. « The striking success of this English Armstrong-Siddeley car, against foreign cars of much greater horsepower, should be a source of keen * gratification to all New Zealand motorists.
