THE MARTIN CASE.

CHARGE AGAINST TEACHER. ADJOURNED TILL FRIDAY. (BY TEtiEOItAPB Vi» RSS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, 6. The open inquiry to be held by the Grammar Schools Board into the- case of Miss Margaret Martin has been adjourned till Friday. The inquiry is the outcome of a complaint that the girl’s form mistress, Miss Terry, influenced the religious view of Miss Martin. At the last meeting the board granted Miss Terry two months’ leave of absence for health reasons, and she left for Te Aroha on Saturday, notice of the inquiry having been handed to her father later in the day. Miss Terry’s counsel said she was ill and could not bear the strain of an nquiry in the immediate future, but he accepted the board’s decision as to the date, reserving the right to ask for a further adjournment if he had not the necessary witnesses present to meet the charges. He emphasised that Miss Terry had not been informed of the nature of the charges to be brought against her, and he protested that the time was too short. The chairman replied that in the opinion of the board Miss Terry bad known the nature of the charges so long that there could be no injustice in Axing the inquiry for Friday. Miss Margaret Martin was not present. but Mrs Martin was present with her -counsel, as was also Miss Terry’s father.
