WOMAN’S THROAT CUT.
THE AUCKLAND TRAGEDY. ' MAN’S CONDITION PRECARIOUS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. Mrs. Simpkins, victim of the Remuera tragedy, and her children, two small hoys, four and two years respectively, had been living with her parents in a cottage in Manawa Road, while her husband resided with relatives in Newton Road. Simpkins had come from the Thames district about a month ago for an operation in Auckland, and was discharged from the hospital over a week ago. He was 53 years of age, and his wife 25. -• It is stated that their domestic life had not been very happy for some years, and lately Mrs. Simpkins had been compelled to consider the advisability of leaving him altogether. She made an appointment . for six o’clock on Sunday, evening to meet him in Manawa Road to talk things over; they met, but what transpired is not known. When the police arrived the woman was dead, having apparently died almost instantly, the wound in her throat having, been inflicted with considerable violence. The man was removed to the hospital and an operation performed, hut his condition this morning was precarious.
